Ingredients
- 4 cups cooked, shredded chicken
- 6 cups dried bread cubes
- 1 large onion, diced
- 2 stalks celery, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup butter
- 2 1/2 cups chicken broth
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
- 1 tablespoon fresh sage, chopped
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 eggs, beaten
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter.
- Add the diced onion, celery, and minced garlic. Sauté until soft.
- In a large bowl, combine the bread cubes with the sautéed vegetables, shredded chicken, parsley, sage, thyme, salt, and pepper.
- Gradually pour the chicken broth over the mixture while stirring until well moistened.
- Mix in the beaten eggs.
- Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish and cover it with foil.
- Bake for 35 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
Notes
For extra flavor, try adding shredded cheese on top before baking. You can also use day-old bread for a better texture in the casserole. This dish pairs well with cranberry sauce for a hint of sweetness.
