Ingredients

Fritter Batter

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour For the batter
  • 1 tablespoon sugar Adds a hint of sweetness
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder For leavening
  • 1 teaspoon salt To enhance flavor
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper For spice
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder For added flavor
  • 3/4 cup milk To create the batter

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups finely chopped onions About 2 medium onions
  • Vegetable oil For frying

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Whisk them together to combine.
  • Gradually add the milk into the dry ingredients, whisking until you have a smooth batter.
  • Fold in the chopped onions, ensuring they are evenly coated in the batter.

Cooking

  • In a large skillet, heat about 1/4 inch of vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
  • To test if the oil is ready, drop a bit of batter into the oil—it should sizzle and turn golden brown.
  • Using a spoon, scoop small portions of the batter into the hot oil. Flatten them slightly with the back of the spoon.
  • Fry each fritter for about 2-3 minutes on each side until they’re golden brown and crispy.
  • Remove the fritters from the oil and let them drain on a plate lined with paper towels. Serve warm.

Notes

For best results, experiment with different types of onions, ensure the oil is at the right temperature, and consider keeping cooked fritters warm in a low oven until serving.
