Homemade Moose Tracks Ice Cream
A delightful frozen treat combining vanilla ice cream with swirls of peanut butter and chocolate fudge, perfect for family gatherings and summer afternoons.
Ingredients
For the Ice Cream Base
- 2 cups heavy cream Use high-quality for best results.
- 1 cup whole milk
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract Pure vanilla extract is recommended.
- 1 pinch salt
- 4 large egg yolks Room temperature for easier mixing.
For the Mix-ins
- 1/2 cup peanut butter Creamy or crunchy based on preference.
- 1/2 cup chocolate fudge sauce Store-bought or homemade.
- 1/2 cup mini peanut butter cups, chopped Great for added texture.
Instructions
Make the Ice Cream Base
- In a medium saucepan, combine heavy cream, milk, sugar, and a pinch of salt. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is warm.
- In a bowl, whisk the egg yolks until smooth. Gradually pour the warm cream mixture into the yolks while whisking constantly.
- Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring until it thickens slightly.
- Remove from heat, strain through a fine mesh sieve, and stir in vanilla extract. Allow to cool and refrigerate for at least 4 hours.
Churn the Ice Cream
- Pour the chilled ice cream base into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
- In the last few minutes of churning, add the chopped mini peanut butter cups.
Swirl in the Moose Tracks
- Transfer the churned ice cream to a bowl and gently swirl in the peanut butter and chocolate fudge sauce.
Freeze the Ice Cream
- Cover the container and freeze for at least 4 hours. Serve and enjoy!
