Ingredients
  

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 4 large eggs large eggs for best results
  • 1 cup vegetable oil can substitute with a mild-flavored oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups self-rising flour can substitute with all-purpose flour and add 1 tsp of baking powder and 1/4 tsp of salt per cup

Mix-ins

  • 1 cup chopped pecans may substitute with walnuts or a mix of nuts for variation

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine granulated sugar, light brown sugar, eggs, and vegetable oil. Mix until smooth.
  • Gradually add the self-rising flour, stirring until just combined. Then add the vanilla extract and mix thoroughly.
  • Carefully fold in the chopped pecans until evenly distributed.

Baking

  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
  • Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Allow to cool in the pan for about 15 minutes before cutting into squares.

Serving

  • Serve warm or at room temperature, ideally paired with coffee, tea, or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. For longer storage, freeze pre-sliced portions for up to 2 months. Reheat in the microwave or oven for best texture.
